Hi folks,
I have recently bought a MKII GT that has been reshod with non original alloys and tyres. The tyre sizes all round are 185/55R15. Can anyone shed any light on what the best & safest pressures are for these as I have checked various websites and they range from 28-35 front & rear which in my personal opinion is a massive difference. Many thanks.

Re: Tyre Pressures 185/55R15
me,,,, 32psi all round. done this pressure in every car i have had. and believe me when i say, ive had loads
185/55/15 tyres seems a weird size tbh, i now have 195/45/15 and think they suit my car really well, any size 15 in my opinion would be a standard size of 195 ( 45 or 50 ) 15.
even my 406 daily has 32psi and the sizes are 205/60/15. and my passat20vt has 205/55/16 also with 32psi all round

Re: Tyre Pressures 185/55R15
185/55-15 was standard on the big bumper Golfs with 6x15 BBS RA back in the day - I bought a brand new set from GTI Engineering at Inters in 1990.
They're quite an unusual size afaik these days - I used to get Bridgestone RE71' s but have now switched to 195/45- 15's on all of mine, all lowered.
30-32 psi will be fine, certainly for higher speed use.

I'd go 2-4 PSI lower at the back, there's a lot less weight there (unless you're heavily laden or have a massive sub in the boot).
