Will a Scirocco take 16 x 8?

Post by Boumsong » Thu Mar 04, 2010 1:57 am

Has anyone tried to run 16 x 8's on a MK2 before? The set i'm curios about will need adaptors so it'll be out wide anyway..Just wondering wether it'll actually sit under the arch at all before I even think about it.

May depend on offsets and tire profile but reckon the arches will need rolling, I remember seeing a red mkII with a VR6 in it that was a demonstrator for an ICE firm for sale on ebay and I'm certain it was on 16's. I'm running 15 BMW BBS on 195 40 toyo's and it rubs on the back over bumps but Its dropped and I haven't got round to rolling the back yet.

It was meant to be a cheep run around till I finished the Type 1, Now I have 2 projects and an obsession

I'm running a set of 16's that are 7.5 wide and i have no problems but my tyres are 40 profile with a stretch on them, the car is dropped 40mm too. I am also using adaptors and the clearance is fine but larger tyres may create a problem. Im going back to 15's soon though as the ride is too harsh with all the potholes round my ways!

see my Scala project thread - 7 and 8 x 16 d90s, adaptors, 40 series rubber, coilovers, rolled rear arches.

I've got 16x7.5s with stretched 45 profile tyres making the profile more like equivalent to 40 (not a massive stretch, only one size narrower i think - 195 tyre width). I thought they were rubbing on the arches at the rear at first but discovered it was the springs. Put 6mm spacers on the rear and they're perfect now all round now. Looks nicer too. I reckon if you put 195 width tyres on 16x8s you'll be fine. Just consider possibly needing spacers depending on the offset. I know slumdogscala's got 15x8 compomotives on his. They don't rub at all but he's got high-end stiff suspension.
