Any ideas on original tyres fitted to a 1987 Mk2 Scirocco Sc

Post by SYNCRO » Wed Sep 28, 2011 12:39 pm

I've just got my Scirocco and have found the tyres fitted (Pirelli P6000 185/60/r14h) are over 10 years old so need repalcing!

In the vast font of knowledge held here, does anyone know what tyres were originall fitted to a 1987 Mk2 Scirocco Scala 1800?? :groove:

Cheers

Kev

i cant help on the original tyres, but i can recommend the cooper zeon XTS's and hancook ventus primes which fit the rocco lovely and have tonnes of grip with predictable handling.

pretty sure my zeons had a warranty too, whereby up to 50% tread wear they will replace the tyre free of charge if it flats/pops etc. awesome.

Worth thinking about all season tyres if you've only got one set of wheels.

I'm running Quatrac 3 on my 14" steels for when the bad weather comes in.

He wont be running in the wet or the snow this year

Strictly sunny weather car over winter!

Now the Golf that's a totally different matter, got the chains already! :yahoo:

If I remember back in the 80's VW had a sort of affiliation with Pirelli, my 84 Storm would have come with P600's, which are no longer available, they were replaced by P6000's.

ianaudia4's is right: VW did have a close relationship with Pirelli in those days, hence the Pirelli-designed alloys that were offered as options.

My '85 GT came with Pirelli P6 (the original P6, not the version Pirelli make now) tyres when it was new.

After 1986 cars tended to come with the Pirelli P600 as factory fit. The closest new tyre available to these now is the P6000, but I think even these may have been superseded by the new-style P6.

Result

4 x Pirelli P6000 from Black circles £184.46 :yahoo:

Called ATS as they have a buy 4 get 25% off, Web said £202 fitted no 25% off, called local fitter quoted £228 inc 25% off, asked why difference and he said "take it or leave it!" told him where he could
shove his tyres!
