another odd question

What are the spokes on a mk1 steering wheel made of? They are magnetic, so I guess steel is a safe bet, but are they chromed or is it stainless?

By looking at the prices for them on ebay I would hope they are soild GOLD!
Got a broken horn tab and a little nick out of the steeering wheel on mine but not happy to spend £100 + for a second hand one....

I won't tell you I just picked one up for a tenner then. It is a bit tatty, but I'm planning to retrim it. Just wondering what the best thing to attack the spokes with is
