Introduction

Launched in February 1974 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Volkswagen Scirocco preceded the Golf by several months, 18 years and 800,000 units later in 1992 this civilised, sporting coupe gave way to the Corrado.

This buyers guide was originally written for VW Motoring and appeared in the April 2003 edition, if you are new to Scirocco ownership I hope you find it informative, but even the old hands may discover something new!

I wrote this to give people a hand in what to look for, what to expect, what to pay and present some tips to keep the Scirocco you own, or plan to own, in top condition.

Any omissions or mistakes are mine, please let me know and I can remedy!
